Ambassador of India to Islamic Republic of Iran

H.E. Mr. Vishwesh Negi

Mr. Vishwesh Negi (D.o.B 31/03/1977) belongs to the 2002 batch of Indian Foreign Service.

In his diplomatic career, Mr. Negi has served in the Indian Diplomatic Missions in Tehran (2004-2007 as Second Secretary – Political), Rome (2010-2013 as First Secretary – Political) and London (2019-2022 as Minister – Political & Press Affairs).

He has assumed charge of the Ambassador of India to Iran on 3 September 2026.

Before joining as Ambassador of India in Tehran, Mr. Negi was holding the position of Joint Secretary (Oceania & Indo-Pacific). He has also held the responsibilities as Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in Ministry of Defence, New Delhi from 2022-2025. In the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, he has held the responsibilities as Director – United Nations (Political) (2015-2017), Director – Pakistan, Afghanistan & Iran (2017-2019), Deputy Secretary – Sri Lanka (2014-2015) and Under Secretary – United Nations (2007-2010).

He holds a Master’s Degree in both Economics and Public Administration from Himachal Pradesh University. Mr. Negi also completed a Diploma course in US Foreign Policy from the Elliot School of International Affairs, George Washington University in July 2008.

Mr. Negi is married and has one son.

The native place of Mr. Negi is Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.
