150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, National Poet of India Celebrated in Tehran

1. The Embassy of India in Tehran organised a function at the Mosalla Imam Khomeini Tehran on May 7, 2011 to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the national poet of India. The function was attended by a large number of academicians, scholars, artists and members of the India – Iran Friendship Association.

2. During the function a booklet on the Life and Work of Gurudev Tagore was released by Charge dÁffairs of the Embassy of India Sibi George by giving a copy to Prof Mohammad Reza Nasiri, Secretary General of Farhangestan.

3.In his remarks, Mr. Sibi George recalled the historical and civilisational links that exist between India and Iran. He said that Gurudev Tagore is an icon of the cultural relations between India and Iran. He recalled the visit of Gurudev Tagore to Iran in 1932 when his 71st birthday was celebrated in Tehran. He said that the Indian Embassy is planning a series of activities in Iran to mark the birth anniversary of Gurudev Tagore. He thanked the Government of Iran for their support.

4.Prof Nasiri highlighted the importance of Tagore’s works in world literature and his influence in the world of creative writing. He said that Tagore is well known in Iran and is respected widely among all sections of the Iranian population.

5.Mr. Abdul Jabbar Kakaei presented an article on Gurudev Tagore. In his article he mentioned that as far as spirituality or mysticism is concerned Hafez and Tagore very close to each other.
