India's 2011 Cricket World Cup Victory Celebrated

1. India’s victory at the 2011 Cricket World Cup was celebrated in Tehran at a function held at the Embassy of India School premises on April 14, 2011. The function was organized by the India – Iran Friendship Association (IIFA) and the Indian Professionals Network (IPN) in collaboration with the Cricket Federation of Iran.

2. The function was attended by over three hundred people including members of the India – Iran Friendship Association and Indian Professionals Network. This included a large number of Iranian artists, musicians, sports personalities, businessmen and members of the Indian community in Tehran. The function included screening of the highlights of the world cup finals, a musical night by ‘Awa-i-Zameen’ an Iranian musical group and patriotic songs by Mr. Hasan Mastani, an Iranian Santoor player.

3. Mr. Sibi George,Charge d’ Affaires at the Embassy of India in his inaugural address recalled the successful organizing of the finals by India in Mumbai. He said that the name of Mumbai was associated with the tragedy of burning Taj Hotel. After the successful hosting of Cricket World Cup 2011 final, the mega event has proved the resistance of the city and its people that they can’t be subdued by handful miscreants.

4. President of the Cricket Federation of Iran, Mr. Manmohan Singh Swahney spoke on the history of cricket in Iran. President of India-Iran Friendship Association Dr. Bijan Reza Vala recalled the several events that friendship Association organized in recent months and thanked the members for their active participation.
