70th Republic Day of India celebrated in Tehran

The 70th Republic Day of India was celebrated at the Embassy of India in Tehran on 26 January 2019. Charge d’ Affaires Shri Devesh Uttam unfurled the Indian tricolour and read out the address to the nation by the Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion.

The function was attended by more than three hundred fifty persons including members of Indian diaspora, Indian expatriates’ community, Indian businessmen, teachers and students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Indian students studying in universities in Qom and Tehran, members of the Indian Mission, friends of India and some media persons. 

The students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tehran sang the national anthem. A cultural programme comprising performances of patriotic songs by the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tawheed International School, Qom and family members of the officials of the Mission was organised on the occasion. Video clips of Pravasi Bhartiya Divas celebrated at Varanasi on 21-23 January 2019 and of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan ‘Vaishnav Jan To’ sung by Iranian singer Mr Farman Fathalian were also played during the function; and Mr. Fathalian was also felicitated with a letter of appreciation from the External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj, for singing the bhajan.
